A Case Study on Post-Concussion Syndrome and Where to Find Help

Concussion, Head Trauma, Headache, Head Pain, Post-Concussion Syndrome, Post Concussion Syndrome, Post - Concussion Syndrome, Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, MTBJA 75-year-old woman sought the care of an upper cervical chiropractor after suffering for ten years with the following symptoms:

  • Unsteady gait
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Irregular blood pressure
  • Seizures due to posture changes and activity
  • Laziness in her left eye
  • Migraines

Her seizures caused her to feel a hot sensation in her upper chest and brought on migraine headaches. They occurred when she felt very tired or was bending forward.

Her neurologist finally found out that she had suffered a fall 10 years prior that left her unable to speak, leading him to the conclusion that she had a misalignment in her upper cervical spine that was responsible for her symptoms. He referred her to an upper cervical chiropractor.

The chiropractor began his exam by doing a postural x-ray evaluation that helped him to see that the top bones of her neck were out of alignment, likely due to the fall years ago. He gave her the first gentle adjustment to her neck that day. She reported that her walking ability, her energy, and her range of motion in her neck all were improved.

After the initial visit, she was given periodic evaluations, supine leg checks, scanning palpations, and additional adjustments when needed. During the time she was receiving care she noticed the following improvements:

  • Her lazy eye improved until it was completely better.
  • She had clarity, the perception of color, and brightness back in her vision.
  • Her seizures were totally gone.
  • She was able to walk and even step heel-to-toe with no problems.
  • Her balance improved so much that she could stand on one foot.
  • Her migraines went away.

Why Upper Cervical Chiropractic Helps with Post-Concussion Syndrome

Researchers looking into this case study concluded that when the misalignment in her neck was corrected, proper blood flow was able to reach the brain. If a misalignment occurs in either of the top two bones of the neck, communication between the body and brain is hindered. By correcting this, her body was able to work at its optimum once again. Therefore, if someone has endured an accident and now suffers from post-concussion syndrome, it is beneficial for him or her to seek the care of an upper cervical chiropractor as soon as possible.
