Other things that may throw off one’s stability are sensitivity to sound, light, and movement or visual disturbances. This can interfere with a person’s daily activities and their ability to concentrate.

All of this seems to point to a problem with the vestibular system. This is the system of the body that controls balance and keeps the body upright. Here are some interesting facts regarding dizziness:

  • A third of all visits to medical professionals come from a problem with dizziness like Meniere’s disease or vertigo.
  • Approximately 35% of those living in the USA (69 million Americans) over age 40 cope with vestibular problems.
  • As many as 8 million Americans have chronic balance issues.

Why Does Dizziness Occur?

To begin with, one must realize that his body is trying to tell him that something is not right. The vestibular system is composed of canals within the ear that are filled with a certain amount of fluid. This fluid sends messages to the brain about where the body is located in its environment. If there is a miscommunication for some reason, dizziness can occur.

How the Alignment of the Spine Is Related to Dizziness

One common reason for dizziness can lie with the improper alignment of the spine. Here at Dynamic Life Chiropractic, we focus our attention on the C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) vertebrae. If either of these bones is misaligned, it may be placing pressure on the brainstem hindering the signals being sent from the vestibular system. In fact, a misalignment here affects the head’s position, the main tube of the ear, and the entire vestibular system.

We use a very gentle adjustment technique that restores the bones back to their original position. This may lead to a return of normal body functions within the vestibular system and brain. Many patients report seeing a significant improvement in their symptoms. Some even see their dizziness go away entirely.
