Lower Back Pain, Lower Back, Back Pain, Back Ache, Pinched Nerve, Numbness, Tingling, Sciatica Pain Relief, Sciatica, injury, back injury, work injuryLower back pain is a very common condition. In fact, it can often be a symptom of sciatica, especially if it is accompanied by numbness, tingling, and pain that radiates from the lower back to the buttocks and down the leg. It may be hard to believe, but the source of that lower back pain can actually begin at the very top of the spine with the C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) vertebrae. Why is this the case?

It is important to realize that the whole spine is comprised of nerves, muscles, and ligaments that work together as one. Something that affects one part of the spine can be felt in another area entirely. The alignment of the top two bones, therefore, is vital to a healthy spine. This means that while the lower back may be the area that hurts, the problem may not lie in that area at all.

If either the C1 or C2 is out of alignment, it can influence a person’s posture negatively side. This can lead to a problem with the alignment of the hips as well as other parts of the spine. When posture is out of balance, the sciatic nerve—one of the largest nerves in the body—can become irritated and inflamed. This can lead to the pain of sciatica.

Acquiring Natural Relief from Back Pain

Medication can help alleviate back pain for a short period of time. However, unless the underlying cause is cared for, the pain is likely to return. Since the cause of back pain can be linked to a misalignment of the upper neck, it is vital to get this misalignment cared for properly. To do this, it is a good idea to contact a professional.

As an upper cervical chiropractor, I have been specially trained in finding and then correcting this types of misalignment. I do this through a gentle method that does not require me to pop the neck or spine. Once this is done, many patients report feeling much better and often they see their back pain go away.
